The Secret Life of Cats (and dogz) is the 2020 Advent Calendar Kit pattern by Casapinka. This item is the digital pattern only. The kit itself can be found HERE.

The Secret Life of Cats (and dogz) pattern will be released on November 30, 2020. By purchasing the pattern here, you will automatically be notified when it goes live. A link will be sent to you in your email and the pattern will go into your Ravelry library. In the meantime, you will receive the schematic for color planning purposes. You can use the Advent Kit or 4 x 100g skeins of fingering weight yarn.

Please provide your Ravelry ID at checkout.

Needle Size: US 6 / 4.0 mm

Gauge: 22 stitches = 4 inches in stockinette worked flat, after wet blocking

Yardage: 1200 - 1500 yds

Finished Size: Shawl: 17” X 72” after wet blocking Scarf: 12” X 68” (except for scarf ends which are 17” wide) after wet blocking

From the Designer:

This only contains a schematic for Advent kit and 4 skein or stash color planning (if you wish to plan!) I call this a SKAL (surprise KAL - The pattern will be published Nov 30 and it is optional if you want to look at it first.)There is a KAL that begins Dec. 1** and the idea is to do one section per day Dec. 1-25 but NO PRESSURE to finish on the 25th. The entire pattern is released at once so it’s not an MKAL. [If you wish to knit this as a Hannukah shawl, don’t let the “Advent” name deter you.]

If you’d like to know about Casapinka’s and Sharon from Security’s designs, sign up here for their occasional newsletter.

The pattern is for a Shawl or Scarf There will also be directions to turn them into infinity cowls of the same size. Half the fun with these is the color chatter!

Details
1. The full pattern will be published November 30. A picture of the finished shawl/scarf will be at the end of the pattern and the bottom of the Ravelry pattern page.

  1. You may use an Advent Set or 4 skeins of fingering weight yarn, approx. 375 yards each for the shawl and cowl and about 1200 yards for the scarf/cowl. I’ve put some examples of colors that will work - see photos at left and fill in the partial schematic for further direction. Some contrast is desirable but you don’t need screaming contrast for all of them.

  2. Shape: Rectangular like The Sharon Show to keep things simple during a pandemic. It will already be familiar to you. The Scarf begins life the same width as the shawl but then decreases so you have pretty flared ends. It uses about 1200 yards of yarn.

  3. Measurements: Shawl: 17” X 72” after wet blocking Scarf: 12” X 68” (except for scarf ends which are 17” wide) after wet blocking (note - it’s simple to adjust your length as you proceed.) Testing is still going on so average lengths may change but it’s also easy to adjust with more or fewer repeats.

  4. Most of this pattern is pretty simple. If you are a beginner and have a couple of projects behind you, I urge you to give it a try! It is easier than The Sharon Show but will not be boring! There is also the simple technique of marling that you will be introduced to if you’ve never done it. Don’t panic…it’ll take you 30 seconds to learn it.

  5. Please join “The Sharon Show” FB group here to knit together or else use the Casapinka Group here.

  6. If you don’t know who Sharon From Security is, she’s a snarky cat who is also a Spy and a Security Guard here at Caspainka. She drinks and smokes and has a Catitude but she’s not as bad as Jean From I.T. and Jeans’ chihuahua Shannon who pees on Sharon’s tires. We are considering bringing in a Royal Canadian Mounted Policecat to help Sharon get her shit together but that’s a story for another day.
