The octagon shapes that look like swirls are not fairisle. They are eight-sided shapes knit from the outer edge in with decreases towards the center. The various triangles and diamonds are added modularly as you go.  There are line-by-line instructions for each shape. You should have experience with this modular knitting technique before trying this project. We recommend you practice first before starting the kimono.
